I really wanted checo to move away from RedBull, but not for the sake of RedBull but himself's, it's very obvious that RedBull only care about one driver ever since Vettel's era. But when you think about it, it seems there isn't a place to go for him anyway.

I was for Kimi in 2007, but i couldnt help but feel terrible for Lewis in Brazil. He persevered some insane politics for a debut, was against the current reigning king and was still almost world champion as a rookie. Kimi was the best driver that year but Lewis was still so good and so close.

One of F1s principles is advertising, and redbull is the best example of advertisement. Checo brings in money not just from mexico, but most of the latino countries as he represents central america being from mexico. Lots of advertisement in the west, super sponsors, and great defense when he's near max, checo is a solid driver who is going through a rough patch, but will make it just like any good driver. Checos extension is good imo

i'm still of the opinion that the RedBull cars are the most difficult ones to drive on the entire grid, has been for a long time and Max Verstappen is just a once every couple of decades talent who can just make it work somehow compared to everyone else, the amount of teammates with a highly respectable amount of skill that fell victim to their cars is absolutely insane and suggests that only few could manage to bring that thing home without any major troubles... so Perez isn't as bad as he looks, it's just he's not Max Verstappen levels of adaptability and talent, no matter what he drives

So why did they re-sign him?

I dunno. It's not like Red Bull has a cash flow problem. They're staggeringly wealthy. So bizarre how he always starts good and then falls off around Round 5. I understand why they re-signed him. They want stability. Checo drove like a monster at Abu Dhabi in 2021. I don't think this year's going to go well for him. Max can wrestle performance and probably a championship out of the RB20, but Checo is going to struggle.

I would have loved to see Sainz in the RB but we all know RB don't want a #2 driver that's competitive with Max. They saw Vettel & Webber and Max & Daniel so they're looking for a nice Rubbens or Bottas to leave Max alone and bring home a constructors title.

Albon had an interview with High Performance where he explained some things about the car that really mirror whats happened in real life, to simplify it, he said that the car was not too bad at the start of the year, but as it was developed for max's style, the front end became more and more potent and sharp, the car kept becoming harder to drive. that may explain some of perez' performance fall off across his seasons at red bull

Perez is one of my favourite drivers on the grid. But if I were leading the team he wouldn't keep his seat next year. I'd try out Tsunoda and Ricciardo in the main car during a free practice or two to see if it fits their driving style. You have the drivers in house anyway and the problems with Ricciardo 2019+, Vettel, and even Perez today are all due to the car not matching their driving style. If none of them fit then Sainz is an obvious choice, though that leads to an RB exodus. I just hope Perez gets a good seat before another team picks him up. Maybe give him the RB because I like him too much to see him in turmoil. Or maybe Mercedes takes him to second Russell.

This is exactly why I like Mercedes and their domination in F1 compared to some other recent dominant teams. Their drivers are close in performance and provide good, exciting battles and competition. Because I watched the painful single driver domination of MSC-Ferrari. It is too painful when one team completely dominates a sport, like Merc did all these years. And it's even way worse and annoyingly boring when only one driver out of two dominates every race. Ham-Nico pairing was entertaining. At least each race we had two drivers fighting for the poles and wins instead of just one predictively dominating. Even Bottas was kinda close to Ham, but then other teams started to challenge them so it was never as boring. But both Ferrari and Red Bull dominations were/are much worse due to them having much slower no.2 drivers. Btw, that might be due to them giving extra preference and setting up their cars solely for their no.1 driver putting the no.2 at major disadvantage. Prolly Merc were more fare with their no.2 drivers in terms of car design/setup compared to no.1 driver.

Seems like common sense to fire Perez and let Dani have a final year. Results won’t be any worse and the brand will benefit immensely. Easy Peary wtf you smoking RB?

The rules have changed. The car is built and tuned for the #1 in a team the second driver is kept for money and point. Checo doesn't bring the points but he sure brings the $$. F1 is not about racing anymore it is just a circus, even F1 is telling us that.

All the Red Bull drivers will never be considered as long as Max is in the seat. Because the drivers in the wings want to be champion and developed as proper young up and comers. Red Bull are fully, almost detrimentally, committed you could argue to Max Verstappen. What I think that means is, Red Bull will not consider anyone for seat number two unless theyre willing to play second fiddle a'la Bottas and/or bring in a lot of damn money.

I still think Checo is fine for RB (even though I would have dropped him) but he needs to put away those World Champion aspirations, stop over-driving and get back to dependable Checo. Good for a couple of wins, a bunch of podiums and a boat load of sponsor cash. He's not a bad driver, he's just not champion material (even those luck into a title now and then though but not against Max). At RB the only junior driver that I had confidence in was/is Albon. But we all know how little time they gave all of them. That being said, I do think it made Albon and Gasly better drivers.

If you put Ricciardo in that car, he will be 10x better than Perez.

I don't get this " Riccardo 2014 - 2018" stuff. He was outstanding with Renault in 19 & 20. He suffered decline with McLaren, but he wasn't exactly awful in 21 , even winning a race.
